On Saturday, May 29, 1999 the City of Sierra Madre and Mt. Wilson Trail Race Committee hosted the 33rd Annual Mt. Wilson Trail Race. The race began in 1908 and ranks the second oldest race in California. The race starts on the pavement and makes a transition to a dirt hiking trail no more than three feet wide. It features an elevation gain of nearly 2,100 feet in 4.3 miles to the turn around point at Orchard Camp on Mt. Wilson Trail. The total distance of the race is 8.6 miles.

Applications for the race are available March 1, 1999 and may be obtained from the Sierra Madre Recreation Department, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024. Race is limited to 300 runners. Entry fee is $22.00 with a t-shirt, $20.00 without a t-shirt & $20.00 for Youth entrants. Awards will be given to the 1st overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in each age group.
